Layers
Layers, so like if I painted the sky it wouldn’t overlap what I already did

I think pigment should have layers because I think we all spend a lot of time trying to make sure something doesn't overlap the other and it gets frustrating trying to fix it and then mess up your artwork.

It would be great for non premium people too!

I agree. Having layers would be vastly helpful.
Let me caution, though, that it’s better to not have them than to have them full of glitches. The Amaziograph app that I use for most of my designs has a layering feature but you have to be extremely careful with it because it crashes the app and you lose your work—sometimes your entire design. I suspect it’s related to how much memory is available to the app on the iPad.
Every benefit that's already posted here in this thread is real and tangible and I would enjoy using layers here in Pigment. Just get it right out of the gate.
Pixite, layers and better tools for managing the gallery are the most-bang-for-your-buck features you can add to enhance customer experience. After increasing the price of a yearly premium subscription by a whopping 50%, some significant enhancements on this scale are warranted.

This would be incredibly helpful in creating hand painted custom backgrounds to compliment the pages. It’s frustrating to have to select 57 spaces to do this only to have to do it again if you want to use the dropper to select a color!

Layers would be a big help. In addition to separating parts of the picture, it lets you experiment with something and then completely undo it if it doesn’t turn out well. While you can do that with the Undo function, it can take a long time to back out of something.

Like on photoshop and procreate, layers to color each item separately in one picture. It would certainly make the experience easier and more enjoyable

Layers like Procreate and options to blend.
