Adjust workflow for Full Journals
Slack convo 2/17/20:
Jann: When you are going for full journals, I think a “build your own journal “ option would be great. For example the workflow goes:
- Select your journal style
- Select the pages you need to get started ( pick from available )
- After the user picks the pages are organized in the order they need them
- When you add a new page you have the option to select from preexisting pages in that journal set I.e add a new daily page, and a to do page
- Some items are clearly single sided pages, would be good to be able to select which side they go on when you’re assembling the journal
Eva: I was just thinking the same today! Selecting and arranging pages before importing
Claire: Love this! I did some thinking-on-paper about that a while ago. I liked the idea of dynamic pages, so certain journal parts “did stuff” like a post-it note that automatically knew today’s date or a bullet that would automatically change to an X or fade out when I tapped it to show completed item, that sort of thing. I can see Zinnia totally taking over so many other apps, in the future. Why use any other calendar or task list, when zinnia gets to that point? This app is going to take over the world.
Jann: I had the choose theme first as I think it would be quite difficult to change the look especially if you have a lot of handwriting in it (as everything would then move around ). I’d imagine that would only work if only the border or fonts changed in the spread, although I could be wrong and this could be fine ahaha
Ben: I've thought about this also. After watching how Bryant Del Toro created his journal in the user testing session, it seems like this might be more common. Additionally, Nicole recommended this service from Plum Paper where you can walk through creating your own journal and customize what type of pages you want to us and how they look. Beth ordered one and loved the process.
Ajay: The ability to customize your journal as part of the creation process would be pretty awesome. I think it could materially make the journal creation experience much better.
I would love to see a set of journal parts that was fully customizable. I look at the existing complete journals and I love PARTS of them, but want to make changes. The only option is to “white out” what I don’t want and put something over it. For example, on the left is the page as it appears, on the right is adjustments I would make. If the parts to of the page, such as the “vitamins”, could be selected and removed, or even better, swapped out with other options (is steps, calories, carbs...) that were in the same style, that would be helpful. If a designer creates a whole journal, there could be pieces to swap to customize for each person. I don’t need to write down my meals everyday, but I do need a place to track tax related expenses. I don’t track taking my vitamins, but I do monitor my steps and my carbs
